Description
In the Farm to Fork Strategy the European Commission is committed to work towards reducing the overall use and risk of chemical pesticides by 50% by 2030. Herbicides are globally the largest subgroup and their share relatively increased in the last decades. Although many alternatives based on mechanical or thermal approaches already exist, their applicability in conventional agriculture remains limited due to the decrease in labor efficiency compared to herbicide spray applications. Through the application of agricultural robots, alternative weed control applications can become valid approaches for conventional farming, especially for higher value crops in e.g. vegetable farming. Farming conditions (crop types, cultivation types, farm acreage, …) differ significantly between countries and solutions existing abroad are often not applicable for local farmers. Through this service, we offer assistance to regional technology companies to implement our robotic software framework for developing new autonomous applications for crop farming in Belgium.
